Michelle Obama "Harris is reviving U.S. hopes"

■ the second day of the U.S. Democratic National Convention

Vice President Kamala Harris, who was elected as an official presidential candidate through a symbolic roll call (call vote) at the Democratic National Convention on the 20th, said, "Together, we will pioneer a new path toward the future of freedom and opportunities for optimism and faith." Vice President Harris, who was campaigning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where former President Donald Trump was elected as the Republican presidential candidate last month, made a surprise appearance on a two-way live broadcast when the official nomination was announced at the convention held at the United Center in Chicago.

The roll call on the second day of the convention began in Delaware, where President Joe Biden served as a senator. Representatives from 50 states, Washington, D.C., and autonomous territories then named Vice President Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as candidates for president and vice president, followed by Minnesota, which is Governor Walz's district, and California, where Vice President Harris served as a senator.

On the second day, big names including former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle attended the event. The remarks are interpreted as an expression of the Democratic Party's willingness to serve as a unified team to win the presidential election after a rare change of candidates. "Isn't something magical floating in the air," Mrs. Michelle said, "America, hope is reviving." After mentioning her late mother, Mrs. Michelle, who is from Chicago, said, "Harris is one of the most qualified and most dignified people to seek the presidency. I respect her mother, my mother and maybe your mother as well." The intention is to give strength to Vice President Harris who is trying to become the first female president. Mrs. Michelle said, "Her story is your story, mine, and the story of the majority of Americans who are trying to make a better life." Mrs. Michelle said, "No one can monopolize what it means to be an American. No one can monopolize what it means to be an American." Former President Obama, who took the stage after Mrs. Michelle, also appealed for support for Vice President Harris, who is trying to become the first black woman president. "The country needs her, and she's ready to lead us," said Vice President Harris' husband Douglas Emhoff, who is challenging the first "First Gentleman" in U.S. history.

Former President Jimmy Carter's grandson and former President John F. Kennedy's grandson were also on the stage ahead of their 100th birthday. Unlike former President Trump, who is in trouble with senior Republicans, both former and current Democratic presidents seem to support Vice President Harris. Stephanie Grisham, who served as White House press secretary in the Trump administration, also gave a speech and stressed that Harris is on the side of the people.
